Visit Kidepo in October – Uganda Safari Weather Guide

Kidepo in October

October in Kidepo is a month full of wildlife, warm weather, and fewer crowds. There are some rains during this month that make the plants green and fresh.

The park is easy to reach by road or air. If you travel by road, the roads are rough, so you need a 4×4 safari vehicle for the 10 to 13-hour journey. If you fly, you can leave from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi airstrip to Kidepo.

In October, migratory birds begin to arrive in the park. This is a great time for bird-watchers to see different species like the Karamoja apalis and Abyssinian roller, which add life to the park.

After a long day, you can enjoy a sundowner at several spots in the park. Watching the sun set over the open plains is peaceful and a great way to relax.

October offers chances to see big groups of buffaloes, elephants, zebras, antelopes, and giraffes. You can often spot these animals from your lodge, such as Apoka Rest Camp or Apoka Safari Lodge.

Game drives are a good way to see animals like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. These animals are mostly active at night when it is cooler and they go hunting.

You can visit the Karamojong people and learn about their way of life. They have rich cultural traditions. Be respectful and take time to see their manyatta homesteads, traditional dances, and local food.

Make sure to bring a camera with extra batteries to capture memories, light clothes for the day, warm clothes for the night, insect repellent, a first aid kit, sunglasses, sunscreen, and other personal items.

Book your accommodation early to ensure a comfortable stay.

For great views, you can take a guided walk in the park, like in Narus Valley. This is a rewarding way to explore nature closely and see plants, birds, and some animals.

October is a wonderful time to visit Kidepo to watch the sun set over golden landscapes and enjoy its wildlife.
