Katurum Lodge – Historical Lodge in Kidepo, Uganda

Karatum Lodge

Katurum Lodge is located in Kaabong District in northeastern Uganda. It is a mid-range accommodation facility in Loitanit near Katurum Rocks. Katurum Lodge was built in 1971 by a Danish architect named Hans Munk Hansen.

It was originally used to host international visitors of former Ugandan President Idi Amin Dada. Today, the lodge is open to anyone who wants to enjoy the true African wilderness in Kidepo Valley National Park.

The lodge can be reached by road from Kampala using the shortest route through Karuma, Gulu, and Kaabong to Kidepo.

By air, chartered flights can be arranged from Aero Beach in Entebbe, where the lodge’s main office is located, to Apoka Airstrip, followed by a transfer to the lodge.

Katurum Lodge has over 30 spacious rooms, including a presidential suite, a spa, and a health club. The rooms face the open plains of the Narus Valley, offering a high chance of seeing buffaloes, antelopes, and zebras right from your room.

All rooms are en-suite with bathrooms that have hot and cold showers, flush toilets, king and queen-sized beds with mosquito nets, beddings, bedside tables, and chairs.

The cottages also have private verandas and balconies where you can relax and enjoy views of the landscape and surrounding areas.

The lodge has a restaurant that serves both local and continental meals. The food is professionally prepared using mostly fresh, locally sourced ingredients to support local farmers.

Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which can be enjoyed inside the restaurant, in the garden, or as a bush meal for a unique experience.

Bush breakfast is a common activity with views of the open Savannah.

Katurum Lodge also has a well-stocked bar with a variety of drinks, including alcoholic options like beer, wine, liquor, and cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks such as water, mocktails, soda, juice, and iced coffee.

Recreational activities offered by the lodge include game drives to see wildlife, nature walks, and community visits to the nearby Karamojong and Ik communities. The lodge also provides airport pick-ups and drop-offs, free parking, Wi-Fi, and laundry services.

Katurum Lodge offers an unforgettable experience for visitors who want to explore the beautiful landscapes of Kidepo Valley.
