Karamoja Biking Tour is a cycling event organized annually by Kara-Tunga Arts and Travels. It aims to promote tourism in northeastern Uganda and raise funds for the education of girls in the region.
There are three tour packages: the full event, the Northern circuit, and the Southern circuit. The full event starts at Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve and ends at Kidepo Village. It lasts 10 nights and has 8 stages.
The Northern circuit begins at Matany Girls’ Vocational School and ends at Kidepo Valley National Park, lasting 5 nights with 4 stages.
The Southern circuit runs from Pian Upe to Matany Girls’ Vocational School, also lasting 5 nights and 4 stages.
Each package includes a cycling jersey made from good material to protect you from the sun, a mountain bike with a helmet, accommodation, and massage services.
This year’s biking tour will take place from October 25 to November 4, 2025. The route covers more than 705 km with a total climb of 4,600 meters, divided into stages.
Riders will experience the open landscapes, gravel roads, and steep hills while exploring the wild areas of northeastern Uganda.
Bicycles are transported from Kampala to the starting point and back. The tour also offers daily bike washing, first aid, park entry fees, meals, bike mechanics, drinking water, and luggage support.
The main goal of the tour is to support girls’ education at Matany Girls’ Vocational School in Karamoja. In the past two years, the event has raised 13,102 USD, helping change the lives of 23 girls.
Each kilometer cycled can be sponsored to support six months of vocational training, including internships, coaching, and certificates.
This tour is not only a test of physical strength but also a chance to experience the region’s nature and culture. The ride starts from Pokot in Kenya and moves back into Uganda through Pian Upe to Kidepo Valley National Park.
Participants can book accommodation with the option of “lazy camping,” which includes a tent, mattress, public bucket showers with hot water, and eco-friendly toilets.
You can also bring your own tent and supplies. There are room options with single beds, double beds for sharing, or two single beds for sharing.
The Karamoja Biking Tour offers cyclists a true adventure with wildlife, nature, culture, and the chance to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
