Karamoja Safari Camp, also known as Kara-Tunga Camp, is located in the Karamoja region on the slopes of Mount Moroto. This camp is the starting point for Kara-Tunga Tours.
The best time to visit the camp is during the dry season, from September to March.
During this time, the roads are easier to use since they are dry, and wildlife gathers around water sources, making it easier to see animals. Guests can travel by air from Entebbe International Airport to Kidepo Airstrip or by road, which takes about 13 hours in a 4×4 safari vehicle due to the rough terrain.
The camp has 7 spacious tents and 4 ensuite guest rooms built under indigenous trees. The rooms have single, double, or twin beds with white beddings and mosquito nets.
Each room has a veranda where you can relax after a long day. Inside the rooms are wardrobes, tables, chairs, and a space to hang your items.
The tents also have beds with beddings and Maasai blankets, as well as seats and tables.
Karamoja Safari Camp offers more services like free parking, internet, laundry, housekeeping, shuttle services, and extra-long mattresses. The camp’s open restaurant provides a nice space for guests.
Meals are prepared by professional chefs, and the staff is organized, attentive, and caring. The menu offers many choices of both local and international dishes.
Bush dining is also available for guests who want a special outdoor experience.
Guests at the camp can enjoy activities at Kidepo Valley National Park, including guided game drives to see lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, warthogs, and elephants. The guides can also lead guests on hikes to Mount Moroto and Napak Mountain.
There are over 470 bird species recorded in Kidepo, making it a good place for bird watchers. You can expect to see ostriches, secretary birds, migratory birds, and Abyssinian rollers flying over the grasslands of the Narus Valley.
Another popular activity is visiting the Karamojong communities. Guests can learn about their culture through storytelling from elders, visit their manyatta homesteads, and take part in their music and dance.
Karamoja Safari Camp is a place where guests can enjoy beautiful landscapes, rich cultures, and great wildlife experiences.
