Nature walks in Kidepo

Nature Walks in Kidepo Valley National Park – The best time to visit the park is during the dry season between September and March. This makes nature walks easier because there is little rain and the roads are clear and passable, unlike during the rainy season.

One of the exciting activities for tourists in Kidepo Valley National Park is nature walks, which are done with a knowledgeable guide and an armed game ranger for learning and safety.

Nature walks can be done at any time of the day in areas such as Narus Valley, Apoka Rest Camp, Lonyilli Mountains, Morungole Mountain, Rionomoe Trail, Kakine Circuit on the eastern side, Kidepo Valley, and Namumukweny Valley.

Tourists walking near Apoka Rest Camp have a high chance of seeing animals like reedbucks, zebras, and elephants. The walk to Narus Valley is about 5 km long with beautiful views, and visitors can see leopards, cheetahs, lions, warthogs, and many bird species.

Namumukweny Valley gives tourists a special experience with a chance to see desert palms and ostriches. In the Lomej Hills, the IK people can sometimes be seen as they move around.

Nature walks in Kidepo Valley National Park cost 15 USD per person for foreign non-residents, 10 USD for foreign residents, and 10,000 UGX for East African citizens.

All walks are guided, and the time taken depends on the visitor’s physical strength and the weather. It is hard to walk through the park when it is muddy during the rainy season. Animals also tend to hide when it gets very hot.

Comfort is important for a successful walk. Some helpful items to carry during the dry season include a pair of shorts, sunglasses, a cap, hiking shoes, insect repellent, and binoculars for spotting animals that are far away.
