Your health and safety are very important when visiting Kidepo Valley National Park. Below are the vaccinations you should consider before you travel to the park.
Yellow Fever Vaccination
Yellow fever vaccination is required if you plan to travel to Uganda, where Kidepo is located in the Karamoja region. You must have a valid yellow fever card to enter both the country and the park.
Get the vaccination at least 10 days before your travel date. You can get it at your nearest hospital or health center.
Hepatitis A and B Vaccination
These vaccines protect you from infections that come from contaminated food or water. They reduce the risk of liver diseases during your stay in Kidepo.
You should get these vaccinations at least a month before travel because they need several doses. Talk to your doctor for advice.
Typhoid Vaccination
Typhoid vaccination protects you from bacteria found in dirty food and water. Always drink bottled water and eat at hotels or lodges to stay safe. The vaccination lowers your risk of getting typhoid.
Rabies Vaccination
Rabies vaccination is for people who may come close to wild animals. It helps reduce the chance of catching rabies. Ask your doctor about the doses you need.
Remember to follow all park rules and never walk alone. Always stay with a park ranger for your safety.
Meningitis Vaccination
Meningitis vaccination is useful if you will be around many people or visiting local communities. If you plan to visit during the dry season when many tourists come, consider getting this vaccine.
Check with a health worker for the latest advice before you travel.
Other Vaccinations
Make sure your vaccines for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) and Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP) are up to date before you travel.
Your health is important. Take care of yourself so you can enjoy your safari in Kidepo Valley National Park safely.
