Kidepo Valley National Park has many animals to see and beautiful scenery during the month of July.
The temperatures are cool in the morning and evening but rise in the afternoon. Carry enough water to stay hydrated during the hot hours.
The roads are dusty and rough but can still be used. It is best to travel in a 4×4 safari vehicle, especially if you are driving yourself. You can also choose to fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to the park’s Apoka Airstrip. Flying is quicker and gives you more time to enjoy the park.
Because there is very little rain in July, animals often gather at water sources like the Narus Valley, which has water all year round. This is a good place for guided game drives, where you can see animals such as bat-eared foxes, giraffes, large groups of buffaloes, and elephants walking across the open plains.
Lions, leopards, and cheetahs also live in these areas. It is easier for them to hunt here, especially at night when it is cooler. A night game drive gives you a chance to see these predators in action.
If you are planning to visit in July, book your accommodation early, as many visitors come during this time. Some places to stay include Apoka Safari Lodge, Kidepo Savannah Lodge, Apoka Rest Camp, Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp, and Katurum Lodge.
One special thing about July is the chance to enjoy nature on foot. The paths are dry and clear, so you can see plants and birds up close. Binoculars with good lenses will help you see the birds even better.
You can also hike the Morungole mountain ranges and visit the IK people or take a walk to meet the Karamojong community. You are welcome to join in their traditional dances, look at their handmade crafts, and learn about their way of life.
The warm weather in July makes it easy and comfortable to explore the park. The light rain brings some life to the plants, and the park feels full of nature during this time.
If you’re visiting in June, this article is for you.
