Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp in Kidepo – Budget Stay in Kidepo, Uganda

Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp

Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp is a mid-range lodge located 4 kilometers from Katarum Gate of Kidepo Valley National Park on Kikis Loitanit Hill. The name Nga’Moru means “a place of rocks” and comes from the Karamojong language.

The camp is raised and offers clear views of the Narus Valley and the Morungole mountain ranges, home to the Ik people. There are no fences between the camp and the park, so animals like buffaloes, giraffes, and elephants move around freely.

The camp has 5 spacious and comfortable bandas with beds, beddings, mosquito nets, and ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold showers. Each banda has a private veranda that overlooks Kidepo Valley National Park.

This is a good spot to see leopards and cheetahs walking through the grasslands. The lodge uses solar power for lighting and has a fireplace where guests can relax and share stories while watching the stars and listening to the sounds of lions and hyenas at night.

Guests enjoy tasty meals at the restaurant, including both local and international dishes. The food is fresh and locally sourced. The restaurant also has a fully stocked bar. For guests going on early morning game drives, breakfast can be packed. The game drives help visitors explore the park and learn about the animals and plants.

A visit to the nearby Karamojong communities can be arranged by the camp. You can learn about their culture and how they have kept their traditions. Visitors are encouraged to support them by buying handmade items like beads, baskets, stools, and other crafts.

The camp can be reached by air or road. Flying starts from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Apoka Airstrip, where you are transferred to the park. Flying is faster but more expensive compared to road transport because the roads are rough.

Traveling by road requires a 4×4 safari vehicle with a guide since the drive takes about 10 to 13 hours. There is free parking at the camp, and airport transfers can be arranged through Uganda Wildlife Authority or the lodge if booked in advance.

Items to pack for the safari include sunglasses, binoculars, insect repellent, hats, light clothes, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes for hiking.

Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp gives visitors the real feeling of the wild, even while relaxing in their bandas.
