Apoka Rest Camp is located inside Kidepo Valley National Park in northeastern Uganda and is managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority. It is a budget-friendly accommodation near the Savannah grasslands of the Narus Valley.
Apoka Rest Camp is open all year, but the best time for activities is during the dry season, from September to March. The roads are dry and easier to use during this time, and wildlife is easier to spot because the vegetation is thin.
The camp has 16 self-contained chalets. Each chalet has a private bathroom, toilet, single or double beds, and mosquito nets. The chalets offer more privacy while staying inside the park.
There are also 14 bandas that are not self-contained, where guests share nearby bathrooms and toilets. The camp also has a camping area with a game ranger for security.
Guests must bring their own camping tent and bedding or rent a tent from Uganda Wildlife Authority but still bring their own bedding. The camping area has shared bathrooms and toilets.
Apoka Rest Camp does not provide meals for its guests. Visitors must carry enough food and drinks for their stay. You can cook for yourself or hire the staff to help with cooking.
There is no electricity at the camp, so plan ahead for things like charging your gadgets. Kerosene lamps are used for lighting.
While staying at this camp, you can easily see wildlife as it moves freely in the Narus Valley, which is near the camp. Buffaloes, elephants, and zebras can often be seen right from the veranda of your chalet or banda.
Make sure to pack enough food, especially dried or non-perishable items, and enough drinks since it is hot in the park and you need to stay hydrated.
Also bring a camera, binoculars, light clothes, sun protection, and comfortable boots for the activities.
There are many activities to enjoy while staying at Apoka Rest Camp, including guided nature walks that take you through areas like the Narus Valley, which is very close to the camp.
Other places to visit are Lomej Hills, Namamukweny Valley, and Kidepo Valley, where you can see animals like ostriches, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and secretary birds.
You can also go on game drives and visit the nearby communities.
Apoka Rest Camp is an affordable place that gives you a front-row seat to the wildlife of Kidepo Valley National Park.
