Flights to Kidepo National Park – Routes & Costs

Flights to Kidepo

Flights to Kidepo Valley National Park – Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the remote Karamoja region, where the roads are poor. The park is about 700 km from Kampala. The best way to get there is by flight, as scheduled flights to Kidepo are available but can be costly.

Flights to the park leave from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi airstrip. The flight takes about two hours and lands at Apoka airstrip.

Apoka airstrip is inside Kidepo Valley National Park, making it a better choice compared to Lomej and Kidepo airstrips. Lomej airstrip is about 3 km south of the park headquarters. Kidepo airstrip is another option used by tourists to reach the park.

Aerolink Uganda offers flights every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Flights depart Entebbe at 12:30 pm and arrive at the park at 2:45 pm. The return flight leaves Kidepo at 3:00 pm and lands in Entebbe at 4:30 pm.

One-way tickets cost about 420 USD per person, while return tickets are about 700 USD per person. Visitors can also connect from other national park airstrips such as Kasese or Mweya for Queen Elizabeth National Park, Pakuba, Bugungu, and Chobe for Murchison Falls National Park, and Kihihi or Kisoro for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Because of the remote location and poor roads, flying is the best way to reach Kidepo Valley National Park. If you choose to travel by road from Kampala, be ready for a 700 km, 12-hour drive. It is a good idea to split the journey by spending a night at Boma Inn or Church Hill Courts, then continue to the park the next day.
